Test results

The test results all came back negative, meaning that nothing showed up to be concerned about. Our doctor still would like us to meet with the occupational therapist and a pediatric gastroentertologist.

As far as we are concerned Pearl is normal....motor skills, language skills, curiosity and learning skills, appetite etc. If one or all of these things were suffering I would be really concerned but that is not the case. Needless to say, I have been feeding her even more. I will speak to doctor and the occupational therapist and look for additional strategies but my gut tells me this is something Pearl will work through. Since we have no genetic history on this child who knows what we are really dealing with but I am encouraged by all the other positive signs she is displaying.

Playdate with Claire

We had a great playdate with Claire today. We went to the park and then played in the basement trying to stay cool. Needless to say, Pearl refused to go anywhere near the water. But she did enjoy the swing--which was a first!

On the doctor front, no news yet regarding test results. Meanwhile I am feeding Pearl double portions so that she will gain the weight!

18 month doctor's checkup

Well, three hours later we are back from the doctor. The doctor is concerned because Pearl actually lost weight from her 15 month visit. She also only grew a 1/2 inch. So he ordered a battery of tests. After our doctor visit, we headed over to the lab for blood tests and a urine test. We need to take three vials of stool back to the lab this week, too.

I am truly shocked that Pearl lost weight. She eats like a horse! Also, the "squirreling" of food we thought was so cute, is not a good thing. It leads to tooth decay and a host of other issues so the doctor wants us to see a occupational therapist for kids.

This was not the doctor's visit I was expecting. Pearl is a smart, healthy, happy kid. I will update the blog once I get the test results.

Weekend in Hood River

We had a great long weekend in Hood River. Thank you Kevin and Melissa. We ate a lot, watched the July 4th parade where Carli scored lots of candy, went to the beach and took a scenic bike ride. It was a great weekend. Pearl has this new "move" where she likes to stuff her mouth and then take about 30 minutes to swallow it all. Not too attractive but it gets the job done eventually!
