Life is good

Life is good....wake up, eat, bike, eat, bike, feed the horses, pool and more eating! And start all over again the next day. We have seen lots of deer and even played tennis this morning, too. This is what vacations are all about: good food, good friends and lots of activities.

Family time

Oaks Park

Took Carli and a friend to Oaks Amusement Park today. It is our annual "end of summer" activity. Had a great time getting dizzy on the Scrambler. The girls rode all the rides, went roller skating and, of course, ate ice cream and cotton candy! All in all, a great day.

Sunday Parkways

This is the second year we participated in Sunday Parkways. It is quintessential Portland--a section of the city is closed off to cars and you can bike, skate or walk galore. Today's route was six miles long and passed several parks. The parks had music, booths, food etc. to explore. Carli even stopped an hula hooped at one station. We decided to bike the route early to avoid the sweltering heat of the afternoon. We had a great time and Carli greeted every policeman and volunteer along the way. Unfortunately, at the end of the route, Carli got stung by a bee so we ended our bike ride in tears. But otherwise it was great. The next, and last of the season, ride is September 26th. Join us!

Visit with Jen

Today we met Jen Farney at the park so that we could meet her new baby Desmond. He was cute and very easy going. Pearl happily ran around the park while Carli kept telling Jen that I was good with babies. Then Carli says "How do you have babies anyways? Do you kiss alot or something?" Jen said she would let me "take" that one. I decided to just respond "Yes" and leave at that!

Movies in the park

In addition to swimming, summer in Portland means movies in the park. Eric got home early and we headed over to Irving Park. I had prepared a picnic. Of course, Carli wanted to be early so we got there at 6 p.m. and the movie did not start until dusk (9:15)!

We spread out our blanket with lots of other families, ate our dinner and headed over to the playground. "Fantastic Mr. Fox" started and the girls settled down. The girls stayed up for the entire movie and the ride home, even though it was 11 p.m. All in all, a great summer evening.
